Where Writing Freedom Will Bring Me

There hasn’t been a day in the last eight years that I haven’t thought about what it would be like to be free. Free of the morning commute. Free of the workweek that has to equal 40 hours. Free of meaningless corporate meetings. Free of the glass ceiling.

It’s only in the last year or two that I realized AWAI has all the answers I need to make the dream of freedom a reality. With each passing day, I become more and more focused on how I’m going to attain my personal independence day.

As I continue to put one foot in front of the other and work toward my copywriting goals, I often think of how different life will be when I have attained the freedom and flexibility of a Barefoot Writer.

Here are the top things I want to accomplish in life when I attain my New Freedom, and I have used the letters in the words New Freedom to create this list.

N is for Now — I will enjoy every minute of every day living in the Now. I will enjoy each day as the gift it is, no longer a slave to a boss or a corporation.

E is for Excel — I will strive to excel at writing, particularly the types of writing that I do for enjoyment without worrying about money. My personal dream is to excel at writing for children, but I will work to excel at every kind of writing I do.

W is for Write — I believe you’ve found your life calling when you would do what you get paid for even if you didn’t get paid. Writing is like that for me.

F is for Family — I will enjoy the flexibility of being able to be present for my family. I will never again have to say, “I can’t go because I have to work.”

R is for Russia — As a straight-A student of Russian in high school, I always wanted to visit Russia, and now that will happen.

E is for Europe — As of yet, I have never visited Europe, but with my new freedom, that is also on my bucket list.

E is for Enjoy — Above all, I will enjoy every minute of my life, which is now under my control.

D is for Disney World — Up to now, I haven’t had the freedom or the finances to bring my grandchildren to Disney World, but that is about to change.

O is for Outsource — My freedom will expand into more freedom as I outsource the tasks I would rather not do.

M is for Massachusetts — With my new freedom, I will visit my friends and family in Massachusetts more often, enjoying the beaches of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard and eventually will purchase a summer home there.

As Greek philosopher Epictetus said, “Is freedom anything else than the right to live as we wish? Nothing else.”
